The March issue is the most important after September in magazine land.
The cover stars, therefore, are crucial when it comes to standing out on the shelves (not to mention sales).
So when Elle announced that Mrs Beckham was to be the March cover girl for their new look magazine I got pretty excited.
Shot by Carter Smith, Victoria looks smoking hot in a grey lace Burberry body and leather jacket casually draped round her shoulders (more on “not wearing coats” next week). I didn’t have a miniature lilac/dove grey (unsure what I’m calling this colour) leather jacket to hand so had to substitute my Rizzo Pink Ladies bomber…
Thank goodness for photoshop, right? I imagine the Burberry one also says Pink Ladies on the back but Elle/Victoria, made them photoshop it off.
I can’t wait to see what she’s wearing/half wearing inside. According to Elle…
She’s also pictured in the magazine wearing new-season designs by Lanvin, Hussein Chalayan, Miu Miu, Manolo Blahnik and, of course, her mainline collection Victoria Beckham.
Woop Woop. We have to wait until Wednesday to see the rest of the shoot but Elle’s Annabelle Brog did do a photo diary which is now up on the Elle website.
I saw the image before I read anything else and thought, “Oooh grey lace. At last. I’ve had some grey lace in the fabric bag for a year, crying out to be used. Nobody wears grey lace. Who would choose to wear grey lace! Who could get away with it!?! And who would dare to wear, essentially, grey lace pants? Well if VB can do it…

Which I loved! I think they are so darn cute and so darn BOTD. Lace shorts! Amazeballs. But then I went through the show images and thought is it actually a grey one of these?
I think it is. It’s only a grand for the gold one.

She made it… Just!
Victoria Beckham was “stuck in traffic” last night, as the other Spice Girls walked the red carpet.
Worst excuse ever! The theatre is right by the tube. Honestly. There are nights to get a cab and there are nights to be on time.
(In my mind she was late because she was being driven by Meatloaf in a red double decker, but that is because my mind is special.)
She did look totally amazeballs though!
Couldn’t help thinking she might have looked better in this….
And I really did expect Mel C to turn up in trackies for old times sake…
And I would have liked to have seen Emma in pigtails…
And Mel B would have looked much better, though per haps colder, in this…
And I genuinely did expect Geri to turn up in something more patriotic…
And I really hope the show is a hit so I can have these cards commissioned.
How great would this look on the side of Meatloaf’s bus? Or any bus? Or a bus stop? Or outside the theatre?
Tonight is the night. The press night for Viva Forever! at the Piccadilly Theatre. Presuming they haven’t all fallen out and that they all manage to get their flights on time from every corner of the globe, the Spice Girls will be there on the red carpet (*sings friendship never ends).
But what will they be wearing?
Well obviously I’ll have to cover that tomorrow. In the meantime we’re talking hair, again!
I was given a Spice Girls project a few weeks back, to coincide with the opening of the show. It’s been a bit top secret so I haven’t really mentioned it much. (Obv I told you all that I went to a preview on Thursday-but it was a research trip!)
Anyway. So I had some Spice Girl dolls to style. Not the real official dolls they had made (though I did look them up on eBay and some of them are terrifying/amazing) but the familiar faces of BOTD, with a Spicy makeover.
Costuming was easy enough. We know what they all look like. But hair… Well the wigs and weaves came out. Amber (mark 3, obviously not the current Amber, she’s way too precious) was attacked with a permanent marker to give her some Geri streaks. Beyoncé had a wig pinned into place (ouch) and for Victoria…. Well it was a bit of a toughy. I occasionally (!) mention Mrs Beckham here at Barbie of the Day so another doll version shouldn’t be that hard, right? Except the look I had planned for the shoot was very much a retro Spice theme. We’re talking 90s here.
There was only one thing for it. A Posh chop!

Say You’ll Be There
Now you may have noticed over the last couple of years (!!!) that I have a bit of a thing for thigh boots. Not in a sexual way, you understand, though they are incredibly sexy. Maybe I watched Pretty Woman too young or something but I do love them. And so do all these ladies.
Madge, RiRi, J.Lo, VB, Kylie, Shakira (not a Sarah among them!) all love them. But it was this picture of my 2012 crush, Rita Ora, performing at GAY in these thigh length beauties that had me heading to my fave doll designers in Hong Kong to check out the latest models…
In an attempt to keep my eBay habit under control I’m only going to buy one pair. And to take the pressure off, I thought I’d let YOU choose which pair to add to the BOTD shoe closet. I narrowed it down to 4 pairs and have left a form at the bottom for you to click on. Easy peasy. The hard part is choosing which boots we neeeeeed.
I tried. I really tried.
When it was leaked they were gonna be on top of black cab’s I did an instant search on eBay. I was prepared that Geri would probably be in a Union Jack so had started cutting up my bunting (Emma Bunting ha ha cracking myself up) from Jubilee but I didn’t get my cab in time, hence the (mini) bus. Très British though, non?
What did you think of the Spice Girls? Amazeballs? I thought so. The best thing about the ceremony? Quite possibly.
And how amazing did VB look in her Giles dress?
Pretty amazing! The perfect dress for riding round an athletics circuit on top of a cab, right?

They think it’s all over….
One last splash! Does it matter who won gold or silver last night in the diving? Even serious bulge watchers don’t learn their names. What matters is that Tom Daley came away from London 2012 with a medal. After all the hype and all the pressure. He got a medal! I was of course glued to the screen (!).
And now it’s all about the closing ceremony. A show to end all shows. A show to wipe the floor with the jubilee? A show to… Well I’m excited in case you can’t tell. I’m hoping for a recreation of the Spice Girls’ Who Do You Think You Are? video with Tom Daley playing Victoria Beckham and Mo Farah playing Scary.

Has she ever looked so good? Well obv I’m a super fan and Posh has more haters than handbags but I do think she looks great. And why? Is it the amazing simplicity of her outfit?

Today is a big day in Theatreland. And a big day in Spiceland.
The Fab Five are being reunited for the press launch of the jukebox musical, Viva Forever. I’m a massive Spice Girls fan and am too excited.
VB is flying in especially, forced by David who is secretly a huge musical fan. She was spotted in a cape at the airport looking quite fantabulous. The airport is my runway.
But what will the other Spicies be wearing for the launch? Famous for their individual styles to the extreme of becoming cartoon caricatures of themselves, the Girls are now Ladies and (for the most part) dress appropriately. Which is a bit sad, isn’t it? Because actually it means they all dress pretty much the same, in nice tailored outfits, nipped in at all the right places. It’s just that one of them just happens to have designed their look (I’m not talking about your collection for Next, Geri!) and the rest are in cheaper, less well cut knock off versions. Competitive dressing, much?
And speaking of competition, will they be able to stop scrapping for long enough to smile (not you, Victoria) for the cameras and praise Jennifer Saunders and (my new BFF) Judy Craymer for bringing their songs back from the dead to life in a musical theatre stylee.
That’s not Victoria Beckham, I hear you cry. Why of course it is, doll lovers. Have you not read the latest issue of Harper’s Bazaar China edition? I know you all subscribe. Mrs B looks quite incredible on the cover with an amazing Crouching Tiger Hidden Drag Queen thing going on. We were inspired by this rocking red head so we blinged up to recreate the shoot. Obviously we threw in a pair of Posh’s fave Louboutins for good measure. Do you think she will release her own shoe line? It’s only a matter of time, surely. How amazing would that B?

Jet lag? The best cure is a party apparently. It may seem like a crazy idea but we’re feeling festive and London feels so Christmassy. We’ve stepped off our flight, dressed to impress, in a super stylish tuxedo and killer heels. As VB always says the airport is my runway.
Your time is up! At last, Mrs Beckham can breathe a sigh of relief. No longer is she destined to be the only girl in a house full of boys. Queen Victoria has given birth to Harper Seven, a name she has seemingly had a long time to choose and is as fabulous/bonkers as expected. I’m sure you were expecting a pink pram for the new arrival but VB is not too Posh to push her pushchair of the past (try saying that after wetting the baby’s head.)
