Cannes-tastic

Diane Kruger has some front… And back… But no sides. Laughing so hard at her appearance in Cannes her sides have split. Quite literally. Diane shone in a gorgeous plummy Versus number on the Croisette. She does seem to get it right every time doesn’t she? I couldn’t say that I can name her greatest movies but I could certainly list a dozen dresses and occasions where she has looked unbelievably beautiful.
Meanwhile… Eva Longoria has some front… Showing up to Cannes without a film career. We’ll let her off as she did bring some serious back in Marchesa.

An H&M Update

You will of course remember our Marni Mania when we took our petit chihuahua to the H&M launch of their collaboration with the Italian label. And super fans will probably remember the Lanvin Loving for that unforgettable partnership (where Halloween also featured).
Well with the news that the high street giant have announced a new joint venture with the fantabulous Anna Dello Russo we thought we should update you on our previous purchases.
My Lanvin cream tuxedo remains one of my favourite items in my wardrobe despite its shocking price-per-wear tag. This t-shirt, however, still hasn’t been worn!

Since November 2010!!! I’m surprised the moths haven’t had it for two consecutive Christmas dinners. Mmm sparkles. My other half hates it so it’s still on the hanger. Lonely.
And as for Marni?

20120514-220510.jpg
Well they didn’t give me this suit bag for the sunglasses (which are amazing!) but the outfit inside… Well I think I was high on the smell of people being crushed. That and I thought for a second that I was BryanBoy or the gorgeous DapperLou

But this is what Halloween thought…

Ouch!

So the ensemble was returned and my card was credited. What to spend such “free money” on? Well dur… We obviously hit eBay hard. But instead of the usual search (thigh boots/ Barbie Louboutin/Miniature Chanel/Barbie Basics) I treated myself to something from a collection I missed.
The Versace collection launched when I was in the States on the BOTD USA tour. The day the collection was released I was in the desert near Palm Springs and Donatella was (for once) the last thing on my mind. Click click click and ta dah. A crazy Escher-esque geometric Versace for H&M t-shirt was mine. My other half hates this one too but I think my friend Kathy will love it as much as Beyoncé does…

The Award is in the Bag

Wait. What’s this? No Versace review? Well I’m sorry but it just wasn’t up to scratch. I’m a massive fan of Donatella but was a bit underwhelmed at last night’s presentation. There were a couple of highlights. Some beautiful shapes that have carried through from the Atelier show in Paris. A nice bit of chainmail. Some canary yellow and tangerine bursts. but! The dresses covered in letters, an alphabetti spaghetti Versace? Blurgh. And all those crosses? They make me think of the rather unsavoury aspects of the catholic church. They might have worked for Gianni but Donatella has worked so hard to mould her own image on the house and it seemed a little… Sad? It all felt a bit Edina Monsoon.
I expect there will be plenty of the gorgeous Atelier Versace at the Academy Awards tomorrow but I don’t imagine anyone will have rush ordered anything from this collection. Ouch!

And so to the Oscars…

When it comes to award ceremonies, the focus, quite obviously, tends to be on the dress. Jewellery next, then hair and make up, maybe shoes and down at the bottom of the list is the handbag. Most stars are happy to go without but if you don’t have your PR on hand to hold your lipstick/ waterproof mascara/acceptance speech then you’re gonna need something and luckily Barbie of the Day has come up with a few suggestions.

You might not be able to fit your Oscar in any of them but it’s the taking part that counts, right? Right?

In The Pink

20120131-143556.jpg

In New York, just before Christmas, I went a little cray cray buying shoes for the dolls. Call it an early Valentine’s present but I couldn’t resist these hot pink beauties. Which are your faves?

Who doesn’t love a Barbie pink heel, right? Well apparently the designers do as they’ve all gone nuts for fuchsia footwear.

All from Net-a-Porter

All from The Outnet

Keep an eye out for Heidi Klum, international super model and pink shoe addict.

Copycats

20120131-120532.jpg

Flicking through the our favourite fashion magazines we’ve recently been struck with a sense of deja vu. Many of the shows so far have left us with a question; haven’t I seen that somewhere before? Of course fashion is rarely new-new and inspiration is taken from the past all the time but suddenly we have spotted a number of BOTD copycats on the catwalk. Donatella, JPG and (shhhh) John Galliano have all featured remarkably similar looks to those seen on the pages of Barbie of the Day. Coincidence? Or do we have a spy at BOTD Towers?

Couture Vulture

Couture for breakfast this morning at BOTD Towers, and it looks delicious. Day one of couture in Paris and the official Barbie of the Day review.
Bright, fruity creations from Alexis Mabille in lemon and berry shades, with enormous floral headpieces caused a stir on the Paris runway. We were left red faced.
With Donatella showing Versace Atelier in Paris for the first time since 2004 the pressure was on. It was all very… Vegas. Some are calling it cheap looking, we call it fabulicious. The thigh’s the limit with super short dresses and Hurley style slashes. The dolls adored it.
Dior was equally sumptuous. Was it crazy rock and roll cool? No. Was it the future? No. Was it really pretty, totally wearable, classic and très Dior? Absolutely. A lot of safe choices for the Oscars.

Refresh, Refresh!

Click refresh. Click it again. And again…. Still nothing! Well thanks a lot H&M for another successful launch. It would appear the dolls will be buying their second helpings of the Versace collaboration on eBay. Now there is a great app. Readers will know I have a deadly addiction slight problem when it comes to eBay. The iPad app makes it all so darn easy. A few swipes of the finger and you’ve bought a pair of vintage Chanel glasses, a handful of Dior bits and bobs, a limited edition Bob Mackie Barbie, all before even finishing a glass of wine. H&M could learn a thing or two from eBay. It looks like we will have to wait a while before we get our hands on the fruity floral delights of the Versace Cruise Collection. Or maybe I have Donatella’s number in here somewhere….

The Lace Race

I was too busy thinking about Cleopatra yesterday to mention that girl married to that prince guy was turning 30. Ok. Ok I get it. She’s a princess. But she’s young and sexy. People say she wears too much eye make up but in BOTD world there is no such thing as too much. I just wish she would sex it up a bit. She’s got great legs. Swishy hair. She’s sample size. Somebody throw some Donatella at the girl.

Sexy, n’est-ce pas?

Uma Thurman stole the show yesterday at the first day of the Cannes Film Festival. She dazzled in Dolce during the day then sizzled in Versace Couture in the evening. On the red carpet when asked about her dress she even admitted, “Sexy isn’t it?” Fantastic in feathers and luscious in lace, Uma is the one to watch this year, forget the movies.
