La Presidente

Well today is a big day here in France, with Monsieur Sarkozy hoping to cling on to his crown, battling it out against Monsieur Hollande. Do presidents wear crowns? They should shouldn’t they?
Did you know Barbie has run for president five times? She first sought office way back in 1992, when 24 women were elected to the House of Representatives. She followed that up with a millennium campaign in 2000 and had additional bids in 2004 and 2008. Talk about persistent.

As part of the official Barbie I Can Be range, Mattel has worked with designer Chris Benz (nope, me neither) on Barbie’s 2012 presidential campaign or “glam-paign” look.
While we’ve fitted Tyra (for who would make a better president? ) out in a classic white shirt, bling bling pencil skirt and skyscraper ox blood Louboutins, Mr Benz has opted for a pink skirt suit with a patriotic red, white, and blue ruffled trim. Perfect for the USA or indeed here in France. Clever, huh?

But who would you vote for? Barbie or Tyra?

Factoids…

•Barbie can finally stand up on her own thanks to Benz’s magnetic, weighted wedges. I find them a little orthopaedic and can’t imagine Miss Banks, Mrs Obama or Mrs Bruni in them but whatevs… Maybe Mrs Merkel.

•Barbie’s outfit was inspired by Michelle Obama (who Benz has dressed a few times).

•The Chris Benz/Barbie collab came about after the designer tweeted that he “had to work with Barbie” and then it happened. How nice. We are in now way jealous, here at BOTD Towers.

We Need to Talk About Yellow Shoes

No, not the eagerly anticipated sequel to Tilda Swinton’s amazing movie. I’ve already talked about yellow being a key trend for this spring/summer but today I’m focussing on footwear. The dolls are loving these lemon Louboutins as they are so hot they can melt any snow that gets in our way. We need to talk about yellow shoes because they are everywhere. Don’t believe me? Not only that, the stars can’t get enough. They look great sitting down…

I actually have the same banana Converse as Miley and they always bring a smile to my face on the greyest day. If Cons aren’t your thing then take a look at these amazing heels. The ones from New Look are only £25 and look just like Minnie’s and they have even more yellow shoes on their site including an amazing lemon wedge(see what I did there?)

Keep an eye out for yellow shoe addict, Katy Perry. She loves that canary yellow.

Well I now know where not to have my hair done. After a shooting at a salon in Los Angeles I think it is probably wiser to have my hair done here in France before I start my American adventure. Blow

Just like Tyra Banks, we have a wind machine to follow us round to ensure our hair can be blown in any direction at any time. Wind swept, tousled and wind tunnel are effects that cannot be constructed with your average hurricane. Today’s BOTD is rocking a slightly too short, slightly too sparkly (as if!) mini dress to compete with the cast of Jersey Shore at the VMAs. Bling it on!

September Spring

Now I know it’s September but fashion land is always (at least) one season ahead. As we head towards winter and wooly jumpers it can be hard to think about our spring/summer wardrobe for next year but as New York, London and Milan fashion weeks have shown, there is a lot to get excited about. Green is a recurring theme here at BOTD Towers and the runways have been filled with colour which is a nice big step away from a winter of camel, caramel and cognac shades. This shot is inspired by an episode of ANTM where Tyra photographed the wannabe Top Models with scarves and a wind machine. The perfect combination.

All Tied Up
