2012 Best Dressed Quiz

This is my last Review post, I promise. I just wanted to remind us all of some of the best dressed moments on the Red Carpet this year. From the Met Ball and the Oscars to the X Factor, it has, for many, been a very stylish year.
Winners for me have to be Gwyneth in Tom Ford at the Academy Awards and Coco Rochas in that mad yellow suit at the Met.
But what about you? Did your faves make it into this best dressed gallery?

I thought I would include a little quiz to see if you’ve been paying attention all year. Also as its Sunday, you really have nothing better to do. The prize is a two week holiday in Hawaii a BOTD calendar. Or maybe a mug. Or both! Yes both.

Tweet answers to @barbieoftheday or mail to barbieoftheday.com or Facebook by clicking on a Facebook link (somewhere at the top of the page?). Answers and winner will be revealed on New Year’s Day.

Good luck!
1. An easy start. Who is the odd one out in the gallery above?

2. I’m never getting back together with this singer even though she did look amazing back in September at the VMAs.
20121230-113830.jpg

3. Fighting for her position on BOTD’s best dressed list, May saw the return of this colourful character and former BOTD fave.
20121230-114623.jpg

4. No need for a seal of approval for this top mo-doll.
20121230-114850.jpg

5. They’re back! Well… Four of them are. One is stuck in traffic.
20121230-114956.jpg

6. I don’t think her daughter will be having sweet dreams when she sees pictures of her mum with these godawful braids.
20121230-114228.jpg

7. The king of the X Factor, surely. (No its not you, Louis!)
20121230-115225.jpg

8. And his partner in crime. The queen of crazy who knows it ain’t nothin’ but a chicken wing.
20121230-115537.jpg

9. Elle magazine’s first ever male cover star and sexiest dad about town.
20121230-120340.jpg

10. The only girl in the world who can produce half a dozen albums in the same year, who is possibly BOTD’s most searched for celebrity and who never stops drinking or tweeting pictures of herself (no, it’s not me!).
20121230-120520.jpg

11. Surely the worst dressed of the year. Not just on BOTD but as decreed by all newspapers, blogs and magazines (except bizarrely FHM). Forgive her because she is young.
20121230-121328.jpg

And finally…
12. Amber met her doppelgänger at the Elle Style Awards back in February. But who is it?

One Last One

20120528-094904.jpg
Red carpet, black carpet. Enough! When they rolled out the (actually quite fantastic) jubilee print carpet for the BAFTAs last night, I shuddered slightly. I’m done with the carpets for a while I think, but had one last piece of couture to show off. A chocolatey confection, nude on Tyra. I never get that. Because nude on Naomi and Joan Smalls and Michelle Obama is clearly not the same as nude on Kylie or Britney. And what about nude on Longoria and Lopez? And nude on TOWIE stars is a whole other… Okay you get the idea.

Amber Lounge

20120525-111112.jpg
It’s a big day for Barbie of the Day today. We’re heading over to Monaco for a pre Grand Prix (Prix Grand Prix?) event hosted by the glamorous Amber Lounge. Billed as the Ultimate VIP nightlife experience tonight Amber Lounge will play host to some very fashionable faces at a fabulous fashion show.
Who better to call then, than BOTD’s Amber? The perfect party girl, Amber has been invited to tweet her way through the event, live from the red carpet, the catwalk and maybe even backstage if she flutters her eyelashes enough. I know you’re all dying to know which celebs are on the guest list and who we will be meeting on the red carpet but you will have to Follow us on Twitter (@barbieoftheday)to see our live updates and check out @AmberLoungeLtd for all the celebrity gossip.
iPhone? iPod? iPad? Camera? Louboutins? We’re ready!

And The Award Goes To…

Well Meryl of course. And The Artist, of course! A predictable night at last night’s Academy Awards but not quite as predictable on the red carpet. There were quite a few treats, a few OMGs and a fair bit of bla.
Starting at the top! Gwyneth Paltrow in Tom Ford and Cameron Diaz in Gucci. For me the winners of the night! I loved Gwyneth’s little cape. So simple yet so elegant and of course so fashion. Cameron was clearly poured into her Gucci and looks sooooo sexy.

Green Goddesses, Viola Davis in Vera Wang and Glenn Close in Zac Posen. I love that Viola has continued to show off her figure throughout awards season. It’s almost too much but you kinda think, you go girl! Alas my dolls only get that haircut when they’ve been really bad but I’m loving the statement earrings to bring out the feminine side (as if the boobs weren’t enough!) Glenn Close looked fabulous in that cute tuxedo jacket. Powerful yet still quite girly.

Meryl really was a golden girl in her glittering Lanvin gown. While I don’t normally advise dressing as the award you know you’re going to get, I loved this super sparkly number.

20120227-125351.jpg

My other rule of thumb is avoiding red! Michelle Williams in Louis Vuitton and Emma Stone in Giambattista Valli both ignored my advice. Also Emma’s dress was scarily similar to Nicole Kidman’s Balenciaga from back in 2007. The only person to get away with it at the Oscars was Heidi in Galliano way back in 2008. Girls. Please call me next time and we can work it out together. At least Michelle didn’t turn up in Primarni.

Speaking of similar dresses… Awkward moment of the night goes to the black sequinned treat that was Anna Faris in DVF and Rose Byrne in Westwood. Both went for oodles of sequins and black eyeliner and a heavy fringe. I think three out of four of the images below are wigs…

And finally. Although predictable, Angelina did look amazing in velvety Versace. For me (and Liz Hurley) there is no occasion not to wear a slit to the thigh but this dress looked perfect on the red carpet. Ange needs some lessons from me and Liz on how to pose but full marks for sex appeal.

And that, doll lovers, is your Oscars round up for 2012. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. See you at Paris Fashion week. X

Faking It

20120129-134446.jpg

A recent trend in invitations is the addition of “Dress Warm”. In the case of this week’s Viktor and Rolf event it was because we were kidnapped and taken to a slightly chillier venue, but equally surprise fireworks displays and rooftop performances have meant that the dolls have had to wrap up since we’ve been in London. But with a body like this why would you ever get dressed? The answer it seems is all in the perfect cover up. Madison, like La Lopez, has always loved her furs and with a red carpet event tonight we’ve taken inspiration from J.Lo to stay warm in front of the paps. We’re faking it in faux fur of course and if you want to do the same take a look at our picks below.

Left to right; Boo Hoo, Miss Selfridge, Juicy Couture, Michael Kors

Sexy, n’est-ce pas?

Uma Thurman stole the show yesterday at the first day of the Cannes Film Festival. She dazzled in Dolce during the day then sizzled in Versace Couture in the evening. On the red carpet when asked about her dress she even admitted, “Sexy isn’t it?” Fantastic in feathers and luscious in lace, Uma is the one to watch this year, forget the movies.

Red Carpet Ready?

And so the madness begins. The 64th Festival de Cannes opens today, here on the Cote D’Azur and as ever we are red carpet ready… Well almost. A few last minute adjustments to our outfits and the fun can commence…. Oh but Ken. We can’t arrive with helmet hair, so forget the Vespa and call the limo.

Oscars Fever

Finally! Apologies for this belated BOTD, I have been sick all day. Typically on such an important day for fashion I have literally been struck down with Oscar Fever. With a soaring temperature, sewing has been far from my mind but I can finally give my verdict on last night’s red carpet.
First up, the hostess with the mostest outfit changes, Anne Hathaway. She managed to get changed about 10 times throughout the night which must certainly have kept Rachel Zoe busy, though as she is rumoured to have been paid a six figure sum to dress the star, it seems Anne got her money’s worth. Seriously, Anne. Call BOTD next time.
Next up, the lovely Natalie Portman in a plum Rodarte number. Ok I suppose. She looked glowing but I would have liked to have seen something a bit more adventurous.
Amy Adams sparkled in sapphire which I adored but for me, my favourite look of the night was Sharon Stone. Yes, she played it safe in black and you could argue that the look was a little too inspired by the movie Black Swan, but I loved it. The severe hair and make up took her to just the right side of drag and it was almost as if she had studied BOTD’s book of slutty funeral chic.

Finishing Touches

At last. The most important red carpet of the year is here and everyone is making last minute alterations and adding the finishing touches. Here at BOTD Towers, Heidi is making her final choices of jewellery and accessories before hopping into her bright pink private jet with the other top mo-dolls, where they will be tended to by hair and make up artists ready for their Oscars moment. See you on the red carpet!

Queen of Hearts

It should never be underestimated how difficult life can be for celebrities. The endless invasion of privacy not to mention having to spend all that money. But when it comes to going out it really is quite simple. You borrow a dress, some jewels, a bag. Have your hair and make up done by professionals. Then you are driven to an event, you get out of the car. Smile. Wave. End of. And the thing is you get invited to lots of these things. So it’s never really a surprise to step out of the car and onto a red carpet. So why, with your team of stylists and advisors must you insist on clashing your dress with the carpet. Cheryl Cole looked absolutely stunning at last night’s Elle Style Awards but her dress melted into the ground beneath her, poor love.

You Snooze You Lose

The one night of the year when an actress doesn’t mind hearing her name in the same sentence as the word SAG, last night’s Screen Actors’ Guild awards were a total snoozefest on the fashion front. So much so that we are saving our energy (and fabric) for the upcoming BAFTAs, Grammys and the big daddy of red carpets, the Oscars, in the hope that the stars will be able to put on a better show than last night’s very poor performance. Special mention, however, should go to January Jones who, after an overtly sexual appearance in scarlet Versace last week, turned Hitchcock siren in Carolina Herrera. Keep it up January, February is just around the corner. (I crack myself up, I really do!)

Oscar Worthy

With the Academy Award nominations announced yesterday, the pressure is on to start thinking about the big night and who will be wearing what. Let’s not pretend that awards season is about anything other than the red carpet. As ever, BOTD will be ready with our glue gun and stapler (!) and sewing sequins and feathers late into the night to bring you the hottest looks from Hollywood.
