Deutsch You Want Me Baby?

I love living in sunshineland but I do get a perverse thrill at the prospect of winter dressing. Hats, scarves, gloves, boots, snoods, mittens, earmuffs. Oh my!
My Marc Jacobs fingerless cashmere gloves were much admired and frequently lost and my Muji muffs (*snigger) kept my ears warm but my quiff in place. Smart!
Other accessories credits go to All Saints and Paul Smith for this weekend’s hats and of course my friend Kathy for the scarf she knitted for me last November. I have no problem being head to toe high street as long as I have some killer accessories to hand.
The dolls of course have no clue how to dress for the winter so some serious thought (and investment) was required for this trip.
New boots, chosen by you, lovely doll lovers, arrived just in time…

Sexy and practical. Or at least I think so. Prepare to see them in many shoots to come.
No animals were harmed in the making of this fabulous fur hat though I did nearly burn my fingers on my glue gun.

Cover Up

20120824-090711.jpg
No not that kind of cover up, though that is a mighty fine leopard and lime beach cover up. Leopard and lime should really be an ice cream flavour shouldn’t it?
No. The cover up. Not because of yesterday’s nudity. And that star can hardly be counted as much cover.
No. The cover up is what is really being covered up. That is to say… Well… What’s been going on with BOTD? Why the disjointed (more than usual!) postings? Isn’t this a daily blog? What’s happened to my daily email subscriptions? What’s with all the bikinis?
Well I’m sorry. I really am. BOTD is a huge part of my life and takes up a ridonculous amount of time and well it’s August. And unfortunately, just like in the real news, there is a lot less going on on these pages. Post Olympics I feel we’ve had a bit of a dip, not in my faithful readership, thank you all, but in terms of proper news and proper postings. It is not helped by the fact that it is a billion degrees in BOTD Towers so getting under the studio lights is a trial. The heat, and our general location by the sea, is what keeps us in swimwear, not to mention the fact that if you looked like the dolls, you would wear little else too.
But!
There are some very exciting things coming up. I’m halfway through a new music video. September is just around the corner and with it, Fashion Week, the MTV Video Awards and a whole host of exciting changes coming to Barbie of the Day
Stick with us. Because we’re worth it.

A Hairy Moment

Don’t worry! She’s not gonna go rock climbing in that dress.
It’s all about the hair. I’m not sure if I’m honest. Madison has tried red extensions before, back in the Cheryl days but I thought I’d bring them back to brighten it up a bit.

Chezza has a new video out. Her hair doesn’t look like this. But it does look brilliant. In fact she looks pretty fantabulous throughout. Great outfits. Love that Altuzarra blazer. Here she is wearing it in a sewer…

I think it’s dry clean only so she should be careful. I might try and colour in the dolls’ white blazer with the same pattern. I think the shoes deserve their own post… stay tuned and in the meantime watch the video if you like.

Not bad but I preferred this one…

Boooooooots!

Seriously? Are the dolls not getting dressed at all this week?

20120502-125354.jpg
So when my friend Kathy sent me my amazing Ken watch a couple of weeks ago from Americaland, she also sent me this amaaaaazing book on boots.
I love a coffee table book! I love coffee. I love tables. I love books. And I love love love me a boot. Or a pair of boots. In year one of BOTD, thigh boots was one of the most popular tags and “Barbie+thigh+boot+ruched” was a frequently googled question that led people to the site (that and “Claudia+Winkleman+thigh+boot+fringe”, go figure!?).
The dolls have a lot of boots. Knee boots. Ankle boots. Shoe boots. And yes, lots of thigh boots. It got to the point where I was receiving pairs from China, Hong Kong, Thailand every week. Gifts from (crazy fetish) fans and of course my own slight eBay addiction.
So this really is the perfect book for me and the dolls. You can see how much Madison loves it…

And how do we feel about these red extensions? No, I didn’t steal them from Amber. I actually found them whilst going through Jessie J’s bins. I quite like them. It reminds me of when Madison was a Cheryl Cole impersonator.

Kiss and Make Up

Dolling ourselves up for a wild weekend (probably just watching the first live shows of The Voice)
I know what you’re thinking… What’s with the dressed down look? Way too subtle! Well ha ha! We can’t help ourselves. Windy weather means a lot of hairspray is needed and so we might as well go big with it. Think Cheryl Cole meets Dolly Parton. (imagine if that ever happened). We’ll try and find some clothes to go over the top of this look but I think less is more, unless it’s back combing or mascara. Hot Right Now

So here it is! The brand new music video from BOTD. Having worked with various established artists such as Beyoncé, Madonna, Winehouse and of course Gaga we decided to break with tradition and look to the future. How can you not fall in love with Rita Ora?

She is absolutely deliciously gorgeous, barbielicious but with just the right amount of dirt. We’re a sucker for a blonde (of course!) so when we saw her at the Elle Style Awards we simply had to meet her (for meet, read, throw ourselves across the dancefloor in her general direction without spilling our pornstar martini). Okay so we’re not BFFs yet but I think when she sees this video (feel free to send/tweet it to her/embed it on your own website/Facebook it/YouTube favourite it/Pinterest it/email it to your gran) we will be friends for life. Enjoy….

Hopping Mad

20120422-133341.jpg

So today I couldn’t decide whether to go for a Barbie voting in France, a crazy Bahrain Barbie at the controversial grand prix or a Marilyn look to celebrate the launch tonight of the new US show Smash.
Well my decision was made when I saw, the always bonkers, Helena Bonham Carter on the cover of the Sunday Times Style, wearing a copy of our Easter Bunny ears. I’m always thrilled when stars are inspired by Barbie of the Day but such a direct copy? Check it out below. Apologies for the ST app screen grab. Pay wall n all.

Clutching at Straws

20120407-111830.jpg

And stretch! I know what you’re thinking, but no, Madison hasn’t got a pair of trousers in that tiny clutch bag. In fact there is just a lipstick a credit card and an iPhone in there. But sometimes that’s all you need right?
If you’re looking for inspiration or indeed clutching for information, check out these bad boys… Caution the Ralph Lauren lizard beauty is about €2000 and you can’t even fit an iPad in it!

Flying High

Competition time at BOTD Towers.
I get the materials for my designs from all over the place. A silk scarf from Primarni can make a wonderful ball gown, a discarded umbrella can make a great business suit and a pair of ripped jeans can make enough denim mini skirts for an entire Barbie army. I even have a fabric dealer who supplies me with illicit textiles from the most fabulous places in the world of fashion…. But your challenge, doll lovers, is to identify the origins of this lovely wool dress. Some of you might recognise this cosy fabric instantly and the first person to email or Tweet me the correct answer will win an amazing, limited edition…. Erm, Barbie of the Day mouse mat. And maybe a nice piece of jewellery if you’re lucky.

Award Winning Pout

Not long to go! Not just the 84th Academy Awards but Dolce & Gabbana’s show in Milan too. What a day! To combine the two exciting events I’ve enlisted the help of Madison and Monica Belucci.

20120226-120951.jpg

The first time the pair have worked together but hopefully not the last. Ms Bellucci has created a limited edition lipstick line for Dolce & Gabbana and shows off her perfect pout in the campaign. I love love love the images of her so it felt like the perfect pose for Madison today as we prepare ourselves for tonight’s red carpet.
