Yes it’s Oscars time again. Doesn’t it come round fast?
Can you believe, because I can’t, that I have not seen any of the 9 nominated films for best picture. Not one! How weird is that? Have they all come out in the last month (yes) or have I just forgotten to go to the movies all year (no)?
Well fortunately I have until February 24th to catch up. I will use this time wisely watching all the films and designing a hundred red carpet dresses for the dozens of celebrities who have already been asking for some BOTD couture for the big night.

Those of you lucky enough to have a Barbie of the Day Calendar will have seen Queen B as the August cover girl. This image is from the same shoot, with Beyoncé in all her sparkly glory. Beyoncé is a real staple here at BOTD featuring in stories and shoots all over the world on our various trips.
Hurrah! Team GB have got some gold jewellery at last! While I love some silver sparklers, I’m thrilled that Helen Glover and Heather Stanning got their gold medals for rowing yesterday.

And while I’m obviously pleased for Bradley Wiggins who also won gold yesterday, I’m really excited for the girls. Girl Power!

Happy birthday Paula Abdul. We’ve gone all Opposites Attract in matching (kinda) black and gold trousers. Y’all know I hate sewing trousers so a double whammy is a special occasion indeed. Ok so Mattel made the gold pair for Elvis Barbie but still!
We left the diamond sparkle to her maj and opted for some glitzy gold today. We’re glistening on the sofa downstairs at the Savoy before jetting back to France for some birthday fun.
Another day, another blonde. Well it is Barbie of the Day. Today we are celebrating Heidi Klum’s birthday. The superest of supermodels. A true doll and a true doll lover. Heidi is a Barbie super fan and was involved massively in the process of her own official Barbie doll.
Here is Heidi in a brand new video for the photographer Rankin’s biannual magazine, Hunger. She looks really quite…. Well… Amazing. Yes it’s her singing. Yes it’s her pole dancing. Yes it’s bizarre. And yes, she really is 39 today. Hot!
Gold gold gold and a bit of gold. We’re blinging up our weekend with a little glitz. While I’m wearing my amazing new Ken watch, Amber has gone for a much brighter look in her blue rubber dress (I know you will be wearing yours too this weekend) and oodles of blinging bangles and necklaces. Conspicuous, yes. Faboosh? Absolutely.
The snow in London has pretty much all disappeared but it’s still darn chilly out there so Amber and Madison are staying wrapped up.
So here’s the thing. Madonna. Amazing. Queen of pop etc etc. Her Superbowl (or superb owl as my iPad seems to think) performance was really quite outstanding. The best thing she has done in.. Well forever really. I was quite blown away. It obviously took a lot of planning and here’s the thing BOTD readers. It’s all about planning. Back in official BOTD residence, I would have whipped up an accompanying post with Madge in mini Givenchy Couture, cheerleaders, thrones, ancient Egypt the lot. Would have loved to have done it in fact. But as I’m in London running Barbie of the Day as a mobile unit (I mean I’m in a house not a caravan) such planning and staging is pretty impossible. And while I’m at it, for all it’s culture and fashion and amazingness London is the worst city when it comes to buying a decent (or indecent) Barbie.
However! Had Madge given us a heads up, a text even, we could have put something together/packed totally different luggage. Watching her new video last week I could see that we have all the elements; the pram, the Cheerios outfits. Throw in a bit of my Cleopatra Egyptian chic et voilà.
The lesson being that if you want a dedicated BOTD then drop us an email, maybe even just a Tweet and we can work together to make something beautiful.

Finally! The world is returning to work today after what seems like an endless holiday. It feels like forever since we got a business related email so it’s good to get back in the saddle, even if we are still existing in a mobile version of BOTD Towers. The dolls are going back to work in style, in fabulous fabrics and grown up tailoring. We’re starting 2012 as we mean to go on, in all out glitz and glamour. Don’t be fooled by the glitter. BOTD means business this year.
