Live from the BOTD Towers fashion desk this morning. Do you like it? What’s going on? I hear you ask. Where is all the Paris Fashion Week footage? Bill Cunningham said something interesting to me the other day when we battling it out for somewhere to lock our bikes (mine pink with white basket and matching helmet). “The difference between New York Fashion Week and Paris is that Paris is like food. It feeds you. The clothes nourish you.”
I knew what he meant. I have been devouring the fashions just as much in Paris as Milano, London and NYC but in terms of recreating I have slowed down. Why? Because Paris is like slow food whereas London and NYC are like fast food. Yummy and exciting but nowhere near as filling. Yes of course London is the most exciting fashion city in the world, constantly changing and reinventing itself but Paris? Well Paris is a classic. There is a reason most designers have a stint there and that so many designers crave the jobs at the big couture houses.
The shows this week have provided me with food for thought (sticking to the analogy) and will inspire what goes on at Barbie of the Day as much as what goes on to the high street. But I have been enjoying it slowly rather than gobbling it up to get my fashion fix and churning it out in the space of a morning.
The fashion desk here at BOTD Towers is abuzz with exciting new projects and the dolls can’t wait to share them with you.
