BOTD 1000

Can you believe it?

1000 posts!

1000 different shots.

What started as a drunken brilliant idea, turned into a serious commitment, producing daily dolly shots not to mention creating the clothes, doing the hair and make up, finding locations, sourcing props, editing the photos, writing high-larious copy to accompany each shot.

Endless photo shoots with so many top mo-dolls.
Cool collaborations with photographers and other bloggers. Support from my HandPicked family. More makeup than all of Essex. A ridonculous amount of backcombing, hair extensions, hairspray and wind machines.  A footwear collection to rival SJP and more couture than Daphne Guinness.

I just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who has supported the site, followed me on Twitter, left comments, sent me tiny Louboutins, offered me advice, offered me dolls….

What happens next?

Hot Right Now

So here it is! The brand new music video from BOTD. Having worked with various established artists such as Beyoncé, Madonna, Winehouse and of course Gaga we decided to break with tradition and look to the future. How can you not fall in love with Rita Ora?

She is absolutely deliciously gorgeous, barbielicious but with just the right amount of dirt. We’re a sucker for a blonde (of course!) so when we saw her at the Elle Style Awards we simply had to meet her (for meet, read, throw ourselves across the dancefloor in her general direction without spilling our pornstar martini). Okay so we’re not BFFs yet but I think when she sees this video (feel free to send/tweet it to her/embed it on your own website/Facebook it/YouTube favourite it/Pinterest it/email it to your gran) we will be friends for life. Enjoy….

Hello? Is It Me You’re Looking for?

I cannot explain how much I love my Moshi Moshi Pop Phone. I’ve had it about a year now but only recently have I seen other people with them and when I saw them on the fabulous The Very Simon G I thought it was time to share my love too. It’s a super cool retro phone you can plug into your phone or iPod or iPhone or iPad or walkman or whatever to use as a handset for making calls. You can even use it to listen to music though maybe don’t mention that to my friend A Model Recommends as she’d rather you just use proper headphones. But don’t just take my word for it. Look how much Amber loves it.

And she’s not the only one! It’s not just the gang at BOTD Towers who love their Moshi Moshis. All the coolest kids are super fans. If you love Why Siri Why? as much as we do then you will know how crazy voice activated auto calls can be. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, perhaps my Moshi Mates can help explain….

Dressed to Invest

With the news that France has been downgraded from its coveted AAA credit rating we thought it might be time to take a look at our own investments at BOTD Towers. While we live in France for most of the year, it seems like the time has come to swap the dolls’ Euros for something more stable. We’re not talking doll dollars here. We want our money where we can see it, in our closet. In truth, despite the endless fashions displayed on the site every day, the big money items can seemingly fit into one shoe box, albeit an expensive one and are in fact just the essentials for living and blogging. Technology to upload our posts. A passport to allow the dolls to travel to exciting locations for our shoots. A bag of bling that can be exchanged for hotel rooms and plane tickets. Emergency sunglasses and a fistful of cash and credit cards for taxis and dining out. The rest of our pennies are spent of the dolls’ addictions to vodka and hairspray, not a cocktail I can recommend, and of course our ongoing love affair with Louboutins.

Back to Business

Finally! The world is returning to work today after what seems like an endless holiday. It feels like forever since we got a business related email so it’s good to get back in the saddle, even if we are still existing in a mobile version of BOTD Towers. The dolls are going back to work in style, in fabulous fabrics and grown up tailoring. We’re starting 2012 as we mean to go on, in all out glitz and glamour. Don’t be fooled by the glitter. BOTD means business this year.

A BOTD Birthday

Barbie of the Day is officially two years old today. Two years of your daily dose of Barbie. That’s 726 posts (apparently) which is quite a lot of doll action.

It is definitely in the top 10 of worse days to have a birthday, up there with December 25th, 31st and January 1st. As my other half knows only too well (don’t ask why I started my blog on his birthday) such an anniversary is swallowed by Christmas shopping, Christmas parties or Christmas hangovers. As such it will be a relatively quiet celebration and like the Queen, we will save ourselves for when everyone has a little more time, energy(and money) to celebrate properly and when BOTD can be the centre of attention. In the meantime we will provide you with a little birthday not Christmas, glitz courtesy of Heidi and the wonderful photographer, Annabelle Moller.
Raise a glass, if you can remember, to another great year of Barbie of the Day.

Because You’re Worth It?

Competition time at BOTD. We love Cheryl Cole. Fact! It is one of our dreams to appear in a L’Oréal advert with her, skipping through a stately home, flicking our hair and getting our mojo back. Fortunately the lovely people at L’Oréal Paris are looking for three girls to star in the next Casting Crème Gloss advert alongside our heroine. Whether you are a deep brunette, fiery redhead or honey blonde you can click HERE to cast yourself in a real advert with Cheryl. You have until November 27th to apply and the most popular brunettes, redheads and blondes will be shortlisted for a L’Oréal Paris Casting Day where you will receive a makeover by the L’Oréal team of hair & makeup artists. If it’s good enough for Cheryl, pet, it’s certainly good enough for the dolls. At the end of the day it’s because you’re worth it!

The Girl With the Blossom Tattoo

This weekend saw the final shoot for the BOTD 2012 calendar. I know you can hardly wait to get your hands on on it but you simply have to. While it was very exciting to finish the shoot it was also a sad occasion as my favourite photographer and very good friend, Annabelle Moller is heading off once more. As ever, I’m not entirely sure when I will see her again. I hope it won’t be too long but we are both so jet set, we never know. In the meantime she has left me a new camera to get to grips with myself. I am super excited to try it out so keep checking in at Barbie of the Day to see how I get on.
