A BOTD Birthday

Barbie of the Day is officially three years old today. 3!
Much like Jesus and Carol Vorderman, this blog’s birthday is swallowed up by Christmas. No presents for us. Boo hoo. (Feel free to send us things in the new year, even if you get it in the sales!). But it’s easy to remember for me, as the blog was born on my other half’s birthday so if I can remember him I can remember the dolls.
We celebrated the 1000th post back in October but three years feels like a pretty significant milestone too.
To celebrate I have brought the team together for a sparkling family portrait.
BOTD hasn’t made me millions (yet) but it has brought me, and I hope you guys too, a lot of pleasure.

A Stylish Birthday

Sunday mornings wouldn’t be Sunday mornings without a big cup of coffee and the Sunday Times Style magazine. It is a tradition I have maintained for the last ten years in different homes, in different cities around the world. When I lived in Paris I would receive the magazine a week late, sent from my mum when I realised it wasn’t included in the international edition. Thank goodness for the iPad edition. Now I can pick it up wherever in the world I happen to be (so jetset, dear readers). And today marks Style’s tenth anniversary, so along with various designers and supermodels we’ve made our own birthday card to say thank you for a fabulously fashionable, wonderful wake up call for the last ten years.

Those of you lucky enough to have a Barbie of the Day Calendar will have seen Queen B as the August cover girl. This image is from the same shoot, with Beyoncé in all her sparkly glory. Beyoncé is a real staple here at BOTD featuring in stories and shoots all over the world on our various trips.

Well it’s Me Julie’s birthday or indeed B’Day today and although she’s ~~a million miles away~~ about an hour down the coast, the dolls are celebrating in style until we are reunited. We’ve gone super blonde with a pink dip dye do. Not sure Julie could get away with this in her fancy new job but the jacket looks totally profesh, right?

So it was Madonna’s birthday yesterday. I was all wrapped up in my Elvis story so, just like last year (or was it two years ago? Time flies at BOTD Towers) my Madge celebration is a day late.
Sorry, love. But remember when you were this good!?!

Me and Madonna go way back and she’s appeared here on Barbie of the Day many times. She’s playing in Nice next week. Anyone wanna come with me and the dolls?

Happy Birthday Anjelica Huston.

The Queen of the Fringe is still stunning at… What? 61? Really? Wow.

We love Anje. We’ve always loved Anje. From The Witches and The Addams Family through to The Royal Tennenbaums and The Life Aquatic. Barbie factoid alert! Did you know Anjelica has even voiced a character in a Barbie movie, Barbie as Rapunzel. A classic I’m sure, can’t find it on Netflix though.
She is of course starring in my current fave, Smash which is still showing on Sky Atlantic. Glee for grown ups! I love it. And I love her as producer, Eileen Rand. And I love all her martini swigging and tossing…

I love Nicole Scherzinger. It’s her birthday today. 34! Apparently.
The thing is, whenever I see her (in magazines, music videos, skulking round the grounds of BOTD Towers) I always ask how old she is. She has that look that could be 25, 35 and sometimes ?5. Am I being mean?
In her PCD days she always looked the oldest, was she? I’ll wiki it.
With teeny tiny Lewis Hamilton I double take, thinking his mum is cheering him on.

Happy birthday Paula Abdul. We’ve gone all Opposites Attract in matching (kinda) black and gold trousers. Y’all know I hate sewing trousers so a double whammy is a special occasion indeed. Ok so Mattel made the gold pair for Elvis Barbie but still!

Birthday Suit

Just as one queen finishes celebrating, another one starts.
It’s my birthday! Woop Woop. We’re back in BOTD Towers after a wild weekend in Londontown and we’re celebrating in style in a brand new suit. What do you think? It’s a replica of a Sinatra suit and I love it! Hair up for work, hair down to party.
