Point and Shoot

So my friend Annabelle is back in town which fills me with glee. We don’t see each other enough so when we do it is a big intense creative explosion with lots and lots of ideas bouncing backwards and forwards. We talk too much and laugh too loud and it’s perfect. It is also a great excuse to get down to some brilliant work, shooting the dolls together. Anna shot the BOTD 2012 calendar so you can imagine what is on our minds and schedules for this weekend….

Anchors Away

When you live so close to the sea you would be crazy not to swim all the time, right? And you’d be equally crazy not to get on super yachts all the time too, right? Okay so we’re not invited onto that many yachts. More than most folk but it’s not an everyday thing. Which suits us fine. We have legs that go on for miles but sea legs they ain’t.
Where was I? Oh yeah. So when the opportunity arises it has to be a darn special boat or a darn special crew to entice us onboard.

And this was a very special boat.
It has taken me about a month to edit up these photos from when my friend Annabelle and her captain beau were in town. Anna loves the dolls almost as much as I do so was delighted to have them aboard their beautiful boat.
And what to wear for such an occasion? How about this amazing anchor print maxi dress?

Giant hat essential to keep the rays at bay….
And if your sea legs to give way to sea sickness, a giant hat will also spare your blushes…

I’m so excited this week to have my friend Annabelle back in town. It’s been over nine months since she was last here. I could have had a baby in that time! Or a Barbie! 9 months since we were shooting the BOTD 2012 calendar! She is an amazing photographer and many of you will recognise this beauty shot as her work. I wish I could see her more often and I really hope we have some time to do a shoot together this week. And maybe even start thinking about a Barbie of the Day 2013 calendar! What would you like to see in it?

Kiss and Make Up

Dolling ourselves up for a wild weekend (probably just watching the first live shows of The Voice)
I know what you’re thinking… What’s with the dressed down look? Way too subtle! Well ha ha! We can’t help ourselves. Windy weather means a lot of hairspray is needed and so we might as well go big with it. Think Cheryl Cole meets Dolly Parton. (imagine if that ever happened). We’ll try and find some clothes to go over the top of this look but I think less is more, unless it’s back combing or mascara. Spring Has Sprung

I don’t care how cliche it is to have florals for spring. I can handle Meryl’s scathing looks in The Devil Wears Prada. Spring has sprung here on the Côte d’Azur and the flowers are in full bloom. The garden at BOTD Towers is awash with bright colours and the dolls are inspired to go with the flow(ers)! Eagle eyed doll watchers may recognise this gorgeous picture as a reworking of the BOTD 2012 calendar’s Miss April. I’ve included the original image below, shot by the divine Miss Annabelle Moller. I hope you’re all having a bright and beautiful weekend.

Part of Me

Fleet Week continues here in Villefranche so we thought we would take advantage of the situation and dress for the occasion. This stunning shot was taken by my dear friend, the fabulous Annabelle Moller. Those of you who have a BOTD 2012 calendar will recognise her work and this picture of Heidi as Miss March.
I’ve been staring at the image all month here on the wall at BOTD Towers and it suddenly has a new resonance, what with the bay outside being filled with Marines. There was a time when me and Anna would have been all dressed up to welcome our American friends, separating the Officers from the Gentlemen. But that was then and this is now. And it seems that right now, we are bang on trend as we are not the only ones thinking about men in uniform.
Katy Perry has released her latest video in which she transforms herself from Teenage Dream to GI Jane. Say what you like about KP (and I frequently do) but despite the awful Smurf hair, the girl gives great video.

A BOTD Birthday

Barbie of the Day is officially two years old today. Two years of your daily dose of Barbie. That’s 726 posts (apparently) which is quite a lot of doll action.

It is definitely in the top 10 of worse days to have a birthday, up there with December 25th, 31st and January 1st. As my other half knows only too well (don’t ask why I started my blog on his birthday) such an anniversary is swallowed by Christmas shopping, Christmas parties or Christmas hangovers. As such it will be a relatively quiet celebration and like the Queen, we will save ourselves for when everyone has a little more time, energy(and money) to celebrate properly and when BOTD can be the centre of attention. In the meantime we will provide you with a little birthday not Christmas, glitz courtesy of Heidi and the wonderful photographer, Annabelle Moller.
Raise a glass, if you can remember, to another great year of Barbie of the Day.

The Writing’s on the Wall?

I don’t reckon much to Queen B’s artwork. It looks to me like she needs something a little bit more fabulous on her wall…. Which is handy as today my finished BOTD 2012 calendars arrived. Designed by me and shot by the brilliant Annabelle Moller the calendar features all your favourite faces from BOTD Towers. I’m sure Beyoncé could fork out £15 to brighten up her home. All she has to do is drop me an email or a Tweet for more information.

The Girl With the Blossom Tattoo

This weekend saw the final shoot for the BOTD 2012 calendar. I know you can hardly wait to get your hands on on it but you simply have to. While it was very exciting to finish the shoot it was also a sad occasion as my favourite photographer and very good friend, Annabelle Moller is heading off once more. As ever, I’m not entirely sure when I will see her again. I hope it won’t be too long but we are both so jet set, we never know. In the meantime she has left me a new camera to get to grips with myself. I am super excited to try it out so keep checking in at Barbie of the Day to see how I get on.

The Show Must Go On

After a bloody Mary and a good night’s sleep we are ready to face the world once more. Back to business in a super sleek LBD and ready to take on the world from the dizzying heights of BOTD Towers. The big hair is back and a fresh coat of war paint means that we’re ready for anything.

Today is the first day of our biggest photoshoot yet. BOTD 2012! We have flown the fabulous Annabelle Moller back to France to shoot Barbie of the Day’s first calendar. I love working with Anna and she loves working with the dolls so it’s a match made in fashion heaven. This picture is from our last shoot together. Lights? Camera? Just do your best, Sweetie!
