Don’t Be So Miserables

20130224-213922.jpg
In a final pre Oscars push I managed to convince Mr F to come watch Les Miserables with me.
Isn’t it long?
I mean, I knew it was long but still. I’m glad I took supplies.
I won’t go on about Mr Crowe. It’s just cruel. And I’m sure he will be the butt of many an Oscars joke.
But seriously?!?
Thank goodness for my old pal Annie Hathaway.
She’s lovely isn’t she?

Bizarre Bazaar

Brrring brring

Oh hello this is Barbie of the Day, can I speak to Sarah?

qqvpc8.jpg

Yeah. I have some bad news….e0q542.jpg

You know you did that shoot for Harpers Bazaar China….?anmxxf.jpg

Well they totally effed up the photoshop…sjp_2489235a

Really bad….

Unknown-2

and this one…. in Dior as well, I’m really sorry…

Unknown-3

Sarah? Are you still there?

Now obviously I love Photoshop. We all do. People pretend they don’t but reality is overrated. Look at Big Brother.
I would say I photoshop around 90% of my photos. They would look sh*t without it. I’ll erase a make up smudge, get rid of a finger print, smooth some hair, turn up some light, add shadow, remove where you can see a pin, or a dodgy hem. I don’t even think about it. Obviously I try and get my pictures perfect when I’m taking them but there are times when you need to crop or add some warmth.
It’s like doing my hair or make up. I wouldn’t go out looking a mess so why leave my photos a mess when you just need a touch of concealer…
But there is concealer and there is woah what happened to SJP’s face?
I mean, seriously. Who did it? The blind intern?
I know when too much is too much…..

California Dreamin’

20130221-093210.jpg
*personal post alert*
Away from the fashion circus I wanted to say a big happy birthday to my friends Claudette and Kathy (with a K). My gal pals from cals- I know that’s not what we call California but gimme a break. I introduced them. They discovered they had the same birthday and a love of me in common.
The rest, as they say, is histoire.
They are incredibly supportive of me and the dolls and fans of the site will have seen all our adventures when I went to visit them, from Malibu (pictured here in technicolor) to Bodega Bay and a whole bunch of giggles in between.
The only annoying thing about them is how far away the West coast of Americaland is. It would be so much easier if it was at the end of the Central line, and I could get there on my oyster card. I wonder what zone Hollywood would be in?
Happy Birthday Ladies!

Burberry Barbie

20130219-152830.jpg
How amazing is that official Burberry Barbie?
I love a trench, don’t you?
Well they certainly do, over at Burberry HQ.
Did you watch the Prorsum show yesterday? Maybe you were invited? Or maybe you watched the live stream on Burberry.com.
Were you wowed.
I was wowed.
We was wowed.
This was wow!

20130219-153205.jpg
It was like Mr Bailey went through my wish list: More rubber, More trenches, More animal print, More love hearts, More wine colours, More rubber- oh wait I said that already.

20130219-153414.jpg
Sheer rubber with heart print pants. On Queen Delevigne!
More hearts on JDunn.

20130219-153530.jpg
A £22,000 mink….

20130219-153612.jpg
I loved almost every look. There were a couple of moments where I was screaming “Belt Up!” or “More Rubber!” and obviously the shoes, absolutely every shoe, made me wanna hurl. But then I forgave everything when I saw something like this…

20130219-153849.jpg
A trench!
In pony!
Could anything make this better?

20130219-153933.jpg
What if you put hearts on it?
Swoon.
If I could buy one thing it would be this coat. I think I love it even more than the Quality Street coats from last season.
Dear Santa,
I know it’s a while until your next trip but….

The Doll’s Diary

It’s Monday.
It’s still Fashion Week.
I know what you’re all thinking.
What’s happening this week?
Well I’m glad you asked….

20130218-110653.jpg
1. Today is the biggy. Day 4 of LFW which, I know, was in last week’s Doll’s Diary, but today deserves its own post with the best of British showing their collections. You’ve already missed Peter Pilotto. You might catch Christopher Kane At midday if you hop in a cab now. Louise Gray, Erdem, Osman and my new BFF, Giles are all on later but the fight for the FROW will be at Burberry and (for the first time) Tom Ford.
The Burberry show is handily just up the road from BOTD Towers London HQ. Look at their amazing (not mine) invitation!

20130218-105525.jpg
Vivienne Westwood would never allow you to use all that paper. No designer would. I’m sure it’s totes made from recycled designs or sketches or something but woah, how beautiful.
I have a feeling Mrs Beckham might show up as Romeo’s date.
As is now tradition they will be streaming live on their site. The show starts at 4pm GMT. Woop!

20130218-111154.jpg
2. It’s the Brit Awards this week. Could London steal world focus any more? It’s like our Grammys! But with less categories. And less Rihanna. Probably.
Damien Hirst has designed the new statuette…

20130218-111340.jpg
Spotty!
Who will be there? Taylor Swift (!!!!!!) Robbie Williams, Muse, One Direction, Mumford and Sons, (former evil twin) Emeli Sandé and Justin Timberlake will all performing at The O2 Arena on Wednesday. It’s on the telly. Phew!

20130218-110502.jpg
3. Speaking of spots! I am a huuuuuge fan of Lichtenstein. Roy, the artist, not the principality. So I’m delighted that the Tate Modern are hosting a Lichtenstein Retrospective which opens this week.
Those dots. Those helpless Barbie blondes. All that popping colour. I can’t wait.
It’s on for ages (well until the end of May) so don’t all rush at once.

20130218-111435.jpg

20130218-113311.jpg
4. Rumours said she would be at the Brits but I don’t see it happening myself but tickets do go on sale for BOTD favourite, Queen Bey’s Tour on Saturday!
It’s called, The Mrs. Carter Show World Tour Starring Beyoncé. A bit of a mouthful if you ask me. Just because Jay-Z put a ring on it what happened to all my women, who independent?

20130218-111505.jpg
5. And in case you haven’t had enough awards ceremony action it’s the big daddy of them all, the Academy Awards this Sunday. Midnight sewing machines at the ready. There will be a BOTD red carpet review on Monday of all the best and worst dressed. I’m stupid with excitement.

Fashion Madness

20130218-110000.jpg
Omg this Fashion Week business is exhausting. Totes fun. But totes exhausting.
What I have loved is the weirdness of starting with just a couple of things: a show here, a launch there and then suddenly being sucked into the crazy fashion vacuum (which I mean in the nicest possible way) and being whizzed around in every direction until you have clothes coming out of your eyes and glitter and sequins under your nails and you have walked miles and you’ve only eaten Pop Chips and a Kale Lagerfeld smoothie and someone tried to give you a coconut water but you were allergic and you’ve lost your goody bag or a Geldof stole it and Nicola Roberts has given you a Smint and you’ve been papped and you hope it’s for a style blog but it could be for a You’re a Fashion Tw*t blog but, hey, publicity is publicity.
Here are some nice and blurry fashion snaps…..
Music, maestro.

Refuel

20130222-185956.jpg
I love to refuel, don’t you?
So it was lovely to be invited along to the New Look Refuel Room yesterday after an exhausting coffee and muffin with my friend meeting with Anna and Grace, endless shows, a party for a new purse/headphones, a pop up pop up book launch, wrestling at Somerset House etc etc.

I love a bit of New Look so it was fun to check out their SS13 collection, shame it was all girls girls girls. Not that we let that get in the way. Our Barbie favourites were definitely the Pagan Cowgirl and Eastern Trail trends.

20130222-230836.jpg

20130222-230842.jpg

20130222-230849.jpg
I spent my refuel time meeting fellow (gorgeous) blogging boys, Style Cupid, Bainser and The Very Simon G, who I feel like I’ve known forever but have only ever really known on Twitter.
No misbehaving in the Dreambooth!
It was delightful to see them in their designer flesh and have a potentially x rated analysis of what was in bubblology teas. Fortunately we are all super innocent so…

Look! A video. Starring Simon’s dog. #amazeDils

The most important part of refuelling is rehydrating.
Y’all know I love a rehydration station so I was relieved to see the Fashion Week Refuel smoothies by Blend and Press

20130222-183318.jpg
They were… Delicious. Well they tasted healthy which was a bonus as I had only eaten Pop Chips for 48 24 hours. More importantly they had amazing fashion themed names… What about an Aloe Vera Wang Smoothie? Pineapple, avocado, aloe vera and peach and a bunch of other stuff I’m sure. What’s not to love? My favourite and I’m sure the healthiest was the Kale Lagerfeld Smoothie. Kale (obv), cucumber, celery, wheatgrass, barley grass, regular grass (probably. It was green. Very green but full of iron and super detoxificating.

There were also some scary looking shots that may or may not have had yogurt in them.

Three’s a trend as they say in Fashionland so the third drink in question was aforementioned Bubbleology teas.

20130222-183219.jpg
Have you tried them? Do they exist outside the fashion bubble? See what I did there?
Ooh their website, and my eyes tell me they just opened a shop in Notting Hill. I just walked past it.

20130222-183044.jpg
It looks all bubbly.
It’s like juice, or ice tea, but with tapioca balls in it…. Fashionland is wack!

Anyway… A fun time was had by all. Especially when the prosecco came out.
It’s all very well having fashion drinks but what we all really need to refuel is a good old fashioned glass of booze. Rumours that my friend FashionistaBarbie was seen having a cup of tea (Tea! Tea in a bag!) are unconfirmed.

20130222-185315.jpg

Fashion Weeeeeeeeek!

What could be more romantic than spending Valentine’s day with the one you love?
Well if the one you love is Barbie, then nothing could be more romantic which is why I took my number one girl out on the town last night (Kelly Rowland came along too but there was method in that madness…).
Forget fancy restaurants, the dolls wanted to dance so we headed straight to Handpicked Media’s Fashion Week launch party just off Carnaby Street.

20130215-132908.jpg
Obviously it was great to see my Handpicked Media family and meet some of the newer bloggers too, putting faces to @twitter names, but why is Barbie in a giant shoe?
Well obviously it was because we were joined by the gorgeous and totally Krazeballs Karen K.
You may remember me writing about the fabulous Karen K last year, after our old pal Nicole Skirtswinger wore a pair of Karen’s amazing thigh boots on the X Factor final.
Well you know me and a thigh boot!

20130215-134300.jpg
Hence why Kelly turned up in hers.
Anyhoo.
Karen’s shoes are totes gorgeous so Babs soon kicked off her Valentine pumps in favour of something with a bit more edge.

20130215-134756.jpg
BLING!
The fabulous thing about these bad boys, as Karen was explaining to me over several a glass of fizz, is the heart is flexible. You can open and close it, depending on whether or not you’re available! How rude?!? She was reading my mind!
And something harder?

20130215-135239.jpg
Badass!
Now I’m used to getting looked at when I’m posing the dolls but last night I had a freaking film crew on me all night….

20130215-135353.jpg
So I’m afraid they made it into my shots….
Which is alright because one of them was gorgeous…

20130215-135452.jpg
Well maybe not in that pic. But he was.
Ooh here are those shoes in the campaign…

20130215-135716.jpg
My other new BFF is Arina Pritch of Pritch London but you will have to wait until later to find out more….
Must dash.
It’s fashion week!!

Love Is In The Air

Everywhere I look around….

No seriously. Forget all the shop windows filled with super flammable hearts and bears. Love is much more visible in fashion land.
From the hearts on those Burberry sweaters…

20130214-085137.jpg
Mmmm and the shirt…

20130214-085217.jpg
And this faboosh leather from Moschino…
20130214-085312.jpg
Look at Kylie wearing it…

20130215-092610.jpg
To this amazing skirt from Topshop…

20130214-085303.jpg
Love!
It gets everywhere.
Even the dolls are all loved up. I bought these shoes well over a year ago with Laure, in Selfridges.

20130214-090424.jpg
Miniature Westwood Anglomania Melissa shoes! Combien de cute?
What did they look like at the Vivienne Westwood show?

20130215-092745.jpg
And what about some celebrity endorsement?

20130215-092913.jpg
Leona Lewis and Katy Perry! There’s a collaboration waiting to happen.
And they come in such great colours….

20130215-093029.jpg
Well, quite but baby blue is such a difficult colour to pull off unless you are, erm, a baby. As such they have been featured on the blog… Once.

20130215-092323.jpg
So I decided to totally bastardise them last night. I got a couple of lovely Nails Inc varnishes in my goody bag on Monday night, (the goody bag deserves its own post but I already ate the Bloody Mary flavoured popcorn,) so set about giving them a new look. I tried out Porchester Terrace, a gorgeous mushroomy nude which is better as a nail colour than a shoe colour.
20130215-092339.jpg
But in the end went with Black Taxi which is super hi-shine and makes the shoes look like patent. Plus, black and red. How sexy? Perfect for Valentine’s day. Maybe with a fishnet? Too much?

20130215-093128.jpg
Jamais!
Happy Valentine’s, doll lovers.

The Doll’s Diary

The Doll’s Diary? On a Wednesday? Have you gone crazy?
I know it’s a bit late in the day (or week) for me to be telling you what’s on but the Elle Style Awards threw everything off track. Did I sound hungover yesterday?

What’s happening this week?
Well I’m glad you asked….
(shall we make it love themed?

20130213-140805.jpg
1. I love John Partridge. You know? The gay one from EastEnders. And in real life. Is he single? (*checks…..) No he isn’t. Oh well. At least I can still see him shaking and shimmying (probably) at the Palladium in A Chorus Line which opens tonight! Omg. How exciting? Oh wait. I’m already booked in to see Kristin Scott Thomas in the Pinter. Oh well. Is there a trailer? Run VT.

20130213-140845.jpg
2. Valentine’s Day is tomorrow. Ooh I’m all loved up. I started watching a video yesterday on YouTube about how to paint love hearts on your nails. Love love love. Pink pink red. Bla bla bla. What are you doing? Eating somewhere you normally eat for double the price? What are me and my man doing? Well I dunno about him but I’m going to the launch of….

20130213-140916.jpg
3. London Fashion Week. Now I love fashion but really. Could this weekend get any busier? I haven’t even done any show reports on NYC yet. Did you see Marc? Amazing! Very exciting to be in town for Fashion Week though. Even if my posts don’t come through thick and fast, you can always see what I’m doing and seeing on my Twitter.

20130213-141012.jpg
4. The Audience opens on Friday at the Gielgud theatre. Directed by Stephen Daldry and written by Peter Morgan (The Queen) and starring, erm The Queen, Helen Mirren as… The Queen. Again.
I love her!
I’m going on Friday. First night. World premiere! How cool is that? Very cool. Will she still have pink hair do you reckon!

20130213-141855.jpg
5. Once I had love and it was a gas, soon turned out, had a heart of glass.
There’s a new exhibition of Blondie photos at Proud Chelsea. I LOVE Blondie. And blondes in general! Never before seen bla bla bla, intimate portraits bla bla bla
The show is called Debbie Harry: Queen of Punk. It’s free! Oh sh*t it finishes on Sunday. Maybe I’ll go this afternoon.

Right that’s it for another week. Sorry it was late. Quick “love” count. Eleven!
Do remember to tune in next week.
You can always subscribe in the box at the bottom to get your daily doll dose. I wont sell your email addresses and will only email with amazing outfits.
I worry if you miss it you will miss my super suggestions. Do you know how many people didn’t realise Smash season two had started. It’s episode two tonight, people!

Elle Style Awards

20130212-145936.jpg
I was once again lucky enough to be invited to the Elle Style Awards last night, which after what happened last year, was a delightful surprise.
I dressed up to the nines in the skinniest of suits with Barbie stuffed in my butch clutch on my arm, to join the most fashionable fashionistas on the red carpet.
Barbie wore a couture gown I ran up yesterday afternoon painstakingly crafted in my atelier over a period of months, by 8 blind Belgian nuns. The latex meets feather combo was sure to make her stand out on the red carpet.
You can check out all the winners over at the Elle website but I know you are much more interested in who was there and of course what they were wearing….

20130212-142205.jpg
Let’s start with the best, shall we? The gorgeous Kate Hudson. Who are you wearing, Kate?

20130212-142339.jpg
Stella! Of course.

20130212-142521.jpg
Ooh Naomie Harris in Roksanda Ilincic. Yum!
There were lots of designers there. Well. Everyone really. Roksanda Ilincic herself, Giles, Christopher Kane, Nicholas Kirkwood, Henry Holland (of course).
Henry looked amazing actually. He was wearing pyjamas bottoms which were gorgeous. I nearly wore something similar. That would have been awkward.

20130212-142943.jpg
Disappointingly nobody was photographed with the dolls this year though Sophie Ellis Bextor really wanted to. She was lovely as she always is. So is her hubby. We run into each other a lot and do that “I know you but not really” look. No restraining order necessary.

20130212-143348.jpg
Winkleman was there. She’s bonk. So is Ronnie Wood. If I had worn my pyjama bottoms they would have looked amazing with his jacket.

20130212-143450.jpg
Ooh there is Christopher Kane. A funny story…. Lawyers removed it. Will send it to Popbitch maybe.
He’s with Elizabeth Olsen. Everyone’s favourite Olsen. Maybe.
And that other woman is called Gwendoline. She is enormous. Taller than me. That would have been a great picture, her and Barbie. But she was cray cray so I didn’t get too close. I saw her licking one of the awards. Great tongue.

20130212-143835.jpg
Erdem and his sister.
Giles Decon with legend, Kristen McMenamy. LEGEND. I wanted to shout that at her.
But I didn’t.
I wanted to ask her to star in a BOTD shoot with the dolls.
But I didn’t.
Giles was wearing spots. I told him I liked his spotty suit and scarf combo but was he not cold without socks. He told me he wasn’t and that he liked my blackwatch suit.
Aw. Group shot with that girl from Downton. Shame you can’t see Giles’ spotty outfit.

Matthew Williamson. He looked great. Here he is holding a light that he stole borrowed from the Nails Inc nail bar. Ooh there was a nail bar. I had my nails done. It will probably get its own post but it was fun. Orla did my nails. She’s not on Twitter. How weird? But I’m sure we will become best friends. Limited choice of black or white (’twas a bit of a theme) and it was leather nail varnish. I have white leather nails. I posted them on Twitter. Orla will never see them! Shame. Ooh I’ll instagram them… Or even post it below. Hang on…
Ooh there were more spots downstairs.

20130212-144935.jpg

20130212-144951.jpg
Close up on my leather nails. Amazenails. Look at the little Chanel logo on my pinky. So cute. But hard. Hard as nails. But softened with cuteness and gay cocktail glass. Empty glass….
Many empty glasses later me and Kate Hudson got the number 23 bus home with our goody bags.
Thanks for having us Elle. See you at Fashion Week!

The GraFTAs

See what I did there?
Busy busy busy.
Don’t be mad.
Did you watch the BAFTAs?
And the Grammys?
Was it me or were the BAFTAs a total yawnfest?
This was the best bit…

20130213-102847.jpg
Aww I love Marion.
And that dress.
The only dress I really liked from Raf’s couture show actually.

20130213-103616.jpg
Reminded me of this…

20130213-103728.jpg

20130213-103735.jpg
Now I know you would love to see a million dresses recreated in miniature but I’m on a deadline with another job and I have to dress myself and at least one doll for the Elle Style Awards tonight.
Plus I have to mentally prepare myself for telling SJP that her trouser suit was a mistake, presuming she turns up, and also to tell Annie Hathaway how much I love her hair/want to be her/that we share a florist-ish.
In the meantime…
Here are the (non sartorial) highlights…. I crack myself up.
