Chelsea Girl

20130524-182127.jpg
So I came back from Northumberland with a rather shocking cold.
It has been quite horrid.
I have been drying myself out (in every sense) in the sun, and watching hours of coverage from the Chelsea Flower Show.
I’m feeling super inspired to get planting and watering and growing and everything….
Or maybe just wearing floral prints.

Summer!?!

Summer is here. Officially the start of the summer. It says. Somewhere.
What happened to spring?
Did I oversleep?
I guess it just got lost in the rain.
But it’s sunny today. So it must be summer.
I’m wearing shorts! Not short shorts (yet) but shorts nonetheless.
I might do a bikini shoot this afternoon.
Just because.
In the meantime here is an amazing summery outfit….

20130502-093005.jpg
Actually shot back in January in Egypt (spot the Nile in the background).
I was just cleaning my camera out and found a stash of amazing photos. As you know I go through phases of taking a million(ish) photos in a day, then having a draught, doing maybe one shoot all week.
Can’t believe I missed this baby!
A good start to the summer, no?

Overweight?

There must be some mistake.

20130425-151726.jpg
I mean…
I can’t possibly be overweight. For Ken’s sake, I only eat dust and Martini! The occasional crushed ice sandwich (with no bread, obvs) if I get peckish. So it’s impossible that I’m overweight…

20130425-152126.jpg
Oh my bags are overweight! I understand now.
Yes I suppose I did bring rather a lot of clothes up to Hull. And shoes, yes. And hats. And okay okay I get the picture, listen, lady, if I slip you a bottle of wine will you let me and all my excess baggage on the plane?

20130425-152419.jpg
And that, readers, is how we got back to France with all our luggage and no extra fees.

Heaven in Hull

20130416-193859.jpg
So we’ve rocked up in Hull.
It is exciting.
It is tense.
It is windy!
Mr F gave me a guided tour of both the Hull Truck theatre and the city itself this morning.
This is what I learnt…
The set looks amazing. I’m excited.
There is a huge shopping centre which sits right next to the hotel. There is every essential one could possibly need: Zara, Toppers, H&M, a 24 hour gym, Europe’s biggest Tesco. I didn’t spy a Marc Jacobs but it was probably on another floor.
It is crazy windy. Crazy flat and crazy windy. They are going to build some kind of wind farm to harness this power. It will revolutionise the city/the north/the world.
I’m gonna need more hairspray. My quiff can’t take these hurricane conditions.
Best factoid! The phone boxes are white. Well a creamy white. Very Spring/Summer 2013. Love it.

I’m not entirely sure how much my London Look will work here. I rocked up in something quite casual (see above) and I’ve spied some über fashion queens working some catwalk looks. There is handily a gay bar opposite the hotel in which one is sure to observe tous les trends de Hull.
Unsure of what to wear I am slipping into a phone box to try on something more discrete so I can observe….

The London Look

20121205-131440.jpg
This is literally what I am wearing for day one in London!
Do I fit in?
Do I look really “cool man cool” as my mum would say.
Is my hat brill?
I’m totes down with the kidz, right?
As Kate Moss once said to me on the bus,

Get the London look!

Am I so out of touch? Do I stand out that much? Have I been out of the big smoke too long?
Okay, Mossy, I better go shopping then.

I love living in sunshineland but I do get a perverse thrill at the prospect of winter dressing. Hats, scarves, gloves, boots, snoods, mittens, earmuffs. Oh my!
My Marc Jacobs fingerless cashmere gloves were much admired and frequently lost and my Muji muffs (*snigger) kept my ears warm but my quiff in place. Smart!
Other accessories credits go to All Saints and Paul Smith for this weekend’s hats and of course my friend Kathy for the scarf she knitted for me last November. I have no problem being head to toe high street as long as I have some killer accessories to hand.
The dolls of course have no clue how to dress for the winter so some serious thought (and investment) was required for this trip.
New boots, chosen by you, lovely doll lovers, arrived just in time…

Sexy and practical. Or at least I think so. Prepare to see them in many shoots to come.
No animals were harmed in the making of this fabulous fur hat though I did nearly burn my fingers on my glue gun.

This was the scene at BOTD Towers this morning as Amber and Madison struggled to pack what turns out to be a pretty hefty box of clothes (and shoes and bags and jewellery and hats and furs and scarves) for a weekend away. Have you not heard of a capsule wardrobe, ladies?

20121116-174455.jpg
I admit my own case is pretty jam packed (full of the same, obv). I used to be great at packing but small case + warm/thick/heavy clothes = fashion dilemma.
So where are we going that is going to be so chilly?

The Airport Is My Runway (part 324)

20121008-084025.jpg
The exits are here, here and here.
Saying goodbye to a surprisingly sunny Scotland. An early start means it is extra cold here at Edinburgh airport, or certainly for someone used to a more Mediterranean climate.
I didn’t go as retail crazy as I normally do when I’m back in the UK but it was still a bit of a squeeze, getting all my purchases into my Louis Vuitton Eastpak wheelie.
See you back in France, doll lovers.

30 years of Guess

20120809-232548.jpg

20120809-232602.jpg
I feel like I’ve been writing this post for months (because I have) and finally it’s here. This summer celebrates 30 years of Guess. It’s a funny old (not that 30 is old!!!) brand. Not somewhere I would race to for a pair of jeans or a gaudy handbag and yet Guess and Barbie of the Day have certain things in common. Obviously we don’t hit the Big 3-0 until next summer but in terms of image, the Guess aesthetic is actually pretty similar to BOTD. You could easily be forgiven for confusing a Guess ad campaign for a BOTD editorial spread in a magazine. The look is quite simple, Bigger is Better. It’s all about big hair, too much make up and pneumatic breasts.
Sound familiar?
Following in the footsteps of the ultimate doll Anna Nicole Smith, Claudia Schiffer has joined the likes of Naomi, Klara Wester, Eva Herzigova and erm, Paris Hilton as the face of Guess Jeans and has quite possibly never looked better.

VB à Paris

20120724-160311.jpg
To celebrate the launch of the new pop up Chanel beauty boutique in Covent Garden, Victoria Beckham jumped on the train to..erm… The Chanel HQ in Paris.

20120724-161426.jpg
the airport train station is my runway.
Has she ever looked so good? Well obv I’m a super fan and Posh has more haters than handbags but I do think she looks great. And why? Is it the amazing simplicity of her outfit?

20120724-162149.jpg
Or it could have something to do with the fab croc bag…

20120724-162316.jpg
Or maybe it’s simply because she’s at Chanel. Dur!
