(Nice) Airport is My Runway

Anyone who is anyone is jetting into Nice airport this week for the Festival de Cannes.
You know me (and Victoria B) and the dolls; the airport is our runway. So here we are. All dressed up, with somewhere to go?

Gatsby Fever

And so with the sunshine and the great bursts of leaves growing on the trees, just as things grow in fast movies, I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with the summer.

Summer is here! HERE!
I love London. It’s on all the time.
There is always something happening.
Somewhere.
With someone.
Less so here on the Côte d’Azur.
Until now that is.

The party month on the Med.
The Festival de Cannes begins today and with the Monaco Grand Prix just around the corner, here suddenly feels the place to be.
The opening movie is the Great Gatsby. It will be big news whether the critics like it or not. But it doesn’t really matter. It’s all about the parties, right?
I spoke yesterday of my Gatsby excitement….
Shall we look at some posters?

Back to Black (part 38)

So I’m quite excited about the Great Gatsby.
It may have had shiteous reviews but whatevs, it looks pretty.
I’m the only person I know who quite liked the book. Mr F has been reading it for about three years and cannot finish it. “Nothing happens!!”
On a Luhrmann front…
He hated Romeo and Juliet.
I loved it.
He loved Moulin Rouge.
I hated it. (I know I might be alone on that one but it is just not good enough-but ha! It works omy own argument of it looking pretty. And at least Nicole Kidman dies it which has gotta be worth something. *spoiler alert* Nicole Kidman dies. Ha ha I crack myself up.)
Strictly Ballroom. Now that’s a movie!
I don’t think he saw it. It was pre us, before his life had been culturally enriched by my presence with things like Devil Wears Prada and tailoring.
Anyway….
I may be excited but that doesn’t mean I’m about to start giving the dolls 1920s bobs… Yet.
Instead let’s talk about the quite frankly, amazeballs soundtrack.
Much has been said about Beyoncé covering Winehouse.
The problem with the track is really the presence of Andre 3000. His noise gets right on my wires. It’s been a long time nice Hey Ya hasn’t it, Mr 3000?
B sounds fine.
But… Would look much better with an Amy makeover…

Just a quick happy birthday to my imaginary friend, Marc Jacobs. Imaginary in the sense that I imagine we would be great friends for the following reasons…

1. I love his work. Always a good start.
2. I love NYC. (And Paris.) Handy as that is where he works.

3. I love Diet Coke!

4. I love the gym. We could work out together. What fun!

5. Because of this, we both look a million times better now than we did ten years ago.

6. I love his boyfriend’s work.

So tonight’s episode of Glee (Yes I’m still watching. Get over it) is a total Diva special so who better to celebrate with, than Stephen Burrows’ Pazette Barbie.
Well maybe you weren’t thinking of this particular doll but…

She was my original Beyoncé doll. She’s super difficult to find these days on eBay but I used to think she was awesome. That icy blonde hair and that caramel skin-the doll, not me. Her official title was Diva Gone Platinum which I think is fair status of her divadom.
But top of my list. A doll I have wanted forever. For the coat alone…

It’s the official Kimora doll. Remember Kimora Lee Simmons? Remember when she was Karl’s muse? Remember when her and Tyra were bezzies? Are they still? Does she still have a reality show? She was like the original Kardashian in a way. ~~Except she was a model not a self made porn whore.~~
Anyway, what about that coat? Those boots. This doll probably influenced the BOTD aesthetic more than anyone else. Well, apart from Donatella.
The Glee ep, which of course I have already watched as I’m from the future, has lots of diva activity but my favourite moment has to be this…. Enjoy!

I love Disneyland Paris. When I lived in Paris I went… Quite a bit. Seriously, considering I didn’t work there I was there a lot. I went the year it opened with my mum for my tenth birthday.
Tomorrow is the park’s 20th anniversary (meaning I must have a big birthday coming up soon too) and to celebrate, the most fabulously fashionable Minnie Mouse and the rest of the Disney team are hosting a fashion parade. a Disney fashion parade. OMG! With celebrities? Yes! With celebrities.
Following the success of her collaboration at Barneys last Christmas, Minnie has once again opted to work with Lanvin’s Alber Elbaz.

How cool?

Rihanna fans rejoice. The shy and retiring starlet has at last launched her clothing collaboration with high street giant, River Island.
RiRi jetted into London to launch the collection on Oxford Street last night. She looked nice….

Now I know her hair is shorter than mine. I’ve seen her on the cover(s) of Elle…

So that giant weave must just be stapled or blu-tacked on, right? I love it. Do you think I could get away with it as a look? My sides are already shaved. Shall I mock up some photoshopped images and do a hair post later in the week?

Meanwhile back at the collection….
I’ve actually recently reignited my love affair with River Island. There was a time when it floated about not being as cool as Topman and Topshop, as chic as Zara, as classic as H&M or as disposable as Primarni.
But you know what, I went in about a month ago where the staff were really friendly (Westfield branch- NOT Oxford St where they are ALL horrible) and really knowledgeable. They found me a pair of skinny jeans. Told me to buy a size down-not to make me feel (even) skinnier but just because they knew what they were on about. Nearly tricked me into buying a gorgeous trench. Actually tricked me into buying some new glasses…. Anyway it was a really nice “retail experience” as they say.

Oh yeah, what about Rihanna?
Well I don’t think Mrs Beckham will be quaking in her Loubouts.
It’s very Rihanna; cropped tees, double denim, oversized Varsity jackets, cropped tees, biker boots, did I say cropped tees?
You can buy it all here and I say all but some of the pieces are “Limited Edition” and ain’t on the site, including some amazing thigh boots I saw Queen Delevigne wearing. (*looks for picture online…)
What would I buy? Well speaking of Cara D, I also saw her wearing this in Paris..

Which is nice. Leather sleeves. £140. A bit pricey but I will reserve judgement until I’ve copped a feel.

Could I wear this over a white shirt. I love a dungaree. It reminds me of my boyband/lesbian/Poptastic youth. And this one is so much easier to go the bathroom in.

What about a leather baseball cap? Obviously the most wearable item in the collection, even with that weave. How many queens on Old Compton Street will be wearing it this weekend? So many!

There js a lovely online magazine with videos and behind the scenes bla bla bla.
