What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve?

Ring out the old
Bring in the new
A midnight wish
To share with you

20121231-141444.jpg

It’s New Year’s Eve
And hopes are high
Dance one year in
Kiss one goodbye
Another chance
Another start
So many dreams
To tease the heart

We don’t need a crowded ballroom
Everything I need is here
If you’re with me
Next year will be
The perfect year

Wherever you are and whatever you are wearing, me and Barbie wish you all a very happy New Year.

Strictly Bananas

20121222-123931.jpg
With the Strictly Come Dancing final tonight I thought I’d go all out on the glamour front.
Festive. Frilly. Fantastical.

20121222-124052.jpg
How could Louis possibly refuse me in such a fabulous outfit? Ah Louis…

20121222-124215.jpg
And then she turns up.

20121222-124332.jpg
Nope, not the adorable Flavia. Though they look remarkably similar.

20121222-124744.jpg
Nope this “tutti fruitti beauty” is set to storm the dancefloor in her super sexy ensemble. Her name is Brazilian Banana Bonanza™ Barbie® and she was designed by Bob Mackie (yes that BobMackie! As in Cher!). Currently available at Barbie Collector her calling card claims that she’s a glamazon from the Amazon, a Latin bombshell as hot and steamy as Rio.
I bet!
But can she do the running man?
Or the robot?
And can she fit that headgear into a polling booth to vote here in Egypt on the referendum (knew I could jam that in somehow)?
Well let me tell you something, missy. Here’s some advice. From me. To you.
Keep your hands off Louis’ banana!
Nobody puts Barbie in the corner!

Welcome Back

Guess who…

20121219-123826.jpg

Yes, the dolls are back on their annual sunshiny, Christmassy break to the land of the pharaohs.
It wouldn’t be Christmas if we weren’t in Egypt, so we ignored what it says in the papers and hopped in the dollicopter to Luxor.
But what to wear for a traditional Muslim Christmas welcome? (!!!)

20121219-124806.jpg
Nothing says “I heart a revolution” quite like a red leather mini skirt. And checkout that white mani! Bang on trend!
Okay okay so we might find something a little more appropes for the referendum on Saturday (Or something really classy-like white leather! -a Barbie of the Day fridge magnet to anyone who can name that movie).
… Anyway. I’m online (for now) so I’ll try and keep up with the posts and tweets.
Get used to this view from my balcony. It’s quite possibly our new BOTD studio.

Pramjazzle™

You remember this stroller, right?

20121029-085912.jpg
Well a new arrival means a new look so this buggy just got a Pramjazzle™(my trademark isn’t actually confirmed yet but don’t go stealing my word!)

20121029-090554.jpg
Yes a new baby has given me the opportunity to Pimp My Pram (TV show in the works so don’t even bother going to the networks trying to sell my ideas).
It seems like only 21 months ago that my buddy Callum was born and he has a little sister already! Hurrah. A girl! At last. All my friends have (beautiful) boys. But a girl at last! Someone to dress up. Someone to play Barbies with. Buy Barbies for….

20121029-090859.jpg
It’s all too exciting!
Welcome to Barbie of the Day, Jess!

20121029-091037.jpg
PS. When I come to the hospital this afternoon, you will be wearing this right, Tamsin?

Double Negative

X Ray vision!
Love this picture whizzed through my magic app. One week on from LBJ action.
There’s that gorgeous black clutch. But now it’s white! Magic!
Close up on bag!

20121112-091739.jpg
I want that clutch in every colour! But it’s black. It’s by Tim Gunn. I’m obsessed!
What about the shoes?
Close up!

20121112-091832.jpg
The black Louboutins. But in negative. So now they’re white. He should rerelease them. He should do another Barbie collaboration. More shoes for everyone!
Less coffee for me perhaps?

Back to Brooklyn

20121113-110356.jpg
Babs went back to Brooklyn to performat the new Barclays Centre in Brooklyn last night and how I wish I was there. Alas she didn’t fly me back to Brooklyn to see her Back to Brooklyn show so we have to settle for this flashback to Brooklyn from the BOTD USA tour last December. How many times can I say back to Brooklyn? Without wandering into Beckham junior territory?
I give up.
Here’s a poster for the Back to Brooklyn show…

LBJ

20121012-094413.jpg
LBJ sounds so much naughtier than LBD, don’t you think?
An LBJ is just as important as the perfect LBD, the dream pair of jeans and the ultimate T-shirt when it comes to wardrobe essentials. The Tatler describes the Chanel little black jacket as “like an Aston Martin for your closet.”
Barbie’s LBJ is a genuine Mattel piece, designed I think by Robert Best, that I bought on eBay. It’s the perfect fit and has been worn many times and feature in many BOTD photo shoots.
My own LBJ is from All Saints. I bought it in the sale in 2007 and it has become the perfect fallback. It makes me feel very expensive and looks as good with a shirt and tie or with a battered pair of jeans and a T-shirt.
Today The Little Black Jacket exhibition opens in London’s Saatchi gallery, as part of its international tour.
Curated by Karl Lagerfeld and Carine Roitfeld, the exhibition is dedicated to the famous boxy bouclé Chanel jacket and shows 113 of Karl’s photographs of various stars from Alexa to Kanye wearing the classic piece.
Karl has updated, undressed, bedazzled and parodied the LBJ during his time at Chanel and this show is a celebration of what has become a wardrobe staple for so many.

Highland Fling

20121006-084629.jpg
Waking up in Glasgow on a whirlwind Scottish trip with a teensy bit of a hangover (thanks J&J) and a fashion dilemma.
Now I love a fashion dilemma. I see it as a challenge. But this one had me stumped, when an invitation arrived for my ex’s wedding.
What the eff do you wear to your ex’s wedding?
You wanna look a million dollars, right? But you don’t want to look like you tried too hard. You want to stand out but you don’t wanna show up in a big white dress. Do you? Do you?
Is black too Black Widow?
Red too wronged ex? Too, shoulda woulda coulda?
Well we broke the rules with this outfit then. Frill seeking tart(an) with a heart.

20121006-092848.jpg
Too much leg. Too much chest. Too much hair.
And the shoes…

20121006-093023.jpg
Rules (and necks?) are made to be broken.

BOTD 1000

Can you believe it?

1000 posts!

1000 different shots.

What started as a drunken brilliant idea, turned into a serious commitment, producing daily dolly shots not to mention creating the clothes, doing the hair and make up, finding locations, sourcing props, editing the photos, writing high-larious copy to accompany each shot.

Endless photo shoots with so many top mo-dolls.
Cool collaborations with photographers and other bloggers. Support from my HandPicked family. More makeup than all of Essex. A ridonculous amount of backcombing, hair extensions, hairspray and wind machines.  A footwear collection to rival SJP and more couture than Daphne Guinness.

I just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who has supported the site, followed me on Twitter, left comments, sent me tiny Louboutins, offered me advice, offered me dolls….

What happens next?

Glamour Puss

20120921-075952.jpg
How glamorous is this shot?
It’s a blinged up version of something seen in the BOTD 2012 Calendar. Today’s the big day. My shoot with Annabelle Moller for BOTD 2013. The dolls are ready. Nails painted. Hair backcombed to within an inch of its life. Make up plastered and mascara flicked. Pyrotechnics? Quite possibly.

Front Row

20120917-221930.jpg
The fabulous front row!
Our fashion week shoots are big news here at BOTD but this time fashion week has been taking a back seat. We have been so busy preparing for the BOTD 2013 calendar plus working on a full size fashion project, LFW has been lower down our list of priorities. I’ve been watching all the streamed shows and catching up with all the latest from the runway but the recreation will have to wait. Maybe I will do city reviews of London and New York. Stay tuned…
