French Fancy

Feeling a little home sick this weekend. While London is certainly one of the greatest places in the world, I’ve been on the road for over two months and I’m missing some of the comforts of my adopted home in France. More to the point I’m missing another birthday party tonight. Seemingly my bubbles will have to wait but in the meantime I have bought an amazing Topshop jumper in the sale. Perfect for my return, non?

The Bigger Picture

On Monday we were lucky enough to see the brand new David Hockney exhibition at the Royal Academy. I say lucky. Obviously we had been smart enough to buy our tickets online, weeks in advance, sat round the swimming pool (how appropriate) so bypassed the hundreds of people queuing round the block to get in. Book it. Book a slot now. It is totally amazing! It is a truly beautiful show and the dolls aren’t even big landscape fans. It’s been a while since we were back home in Yorkshire but this show almost made us want to take a trip down memory lane. My favourite works were Hockneys iPad paintings which he created using the Brushes app on his iPad. Nobody loves the iPad more than the dolls so we took ours along to have a go ourselves. Not as easy as it looks!

The Bomb

Last night, Barbie of the Day was invited to an exclusive event courtesy of Handpicked Media, the launch of the new Viktor and Rolf fragrance for men, Spicebomb. Having met at the swanky Charlotte Street hotel, we were dollnapped by two super hot boys who guided us to a secret location….. Erm. A really chic NCP car park. The glamour! We climbed inside a giant lift and were whisked to an unlit floor of the car park. So far so scary. As we shivered in the dark, a screen lit the room and counted down. If you’ve seen the Saw movies then you would be a pretty frightened doll by now, but just when we thought we were going to be cut into tiny pieces or have to eat the Handpicked Media gang… BANG!The bomb went off. The Spicebomb. The assembled cast were showered with glitter and sparkling ticker tape. A beautiful glass grenade shaped bottle stood in the middle of the room. How does it smell? Absolutely delicious! Spicy but not heavy. A taste of grapefruit. A sniff of chilli. It’s incredibly sexy and as addictive as the pink peppercorn cocktails that we’re served.

Don’t try this in just any car park.

Karl

Today marks the launch of Karl Lagerfeld’s new and seemingly more affordable clothing line being sold exclusively at net-a-porter.com. After a wonderful show yesterday in Paris, where guests were seated on an enormous plane and invited to fly Chanel Airlines, the world is eager to see what Karl’s new line will be like. So far he has only offered a sneak peak online and through the super fun Karlified app. We decided to give Jet a Karl makeover using the app to celebrate the launch.

Couture Vulture

Couture for breakfast this morning at BOTD Towers, and it looks delicious. Day one of couture in Paris and the official Barbie of the Day review.
Bright, fruity creations from Alexis Mabille in lemon and berry shades, with enormous floral headpieces caused a stir on the Paris runway. We were left red faced.
With Donatella showing Versace Atelier in Paris for the first time since 2004 the pressure was on. It was all very… Vegas. Some are calling it cheap looking, we call it fabulicious. The thigh’s the limit with super short dresses and Hurley style slashes. The dolls adored it.
Dior was equally sumptuous. Was it crazy rock and roll cool? No. Was it the future? No. Was it really pretty, totally wearable, classic and très Dior? Absolutely. A lot of safe choices for the Oscars.

The Perfect Pout

20120123-102613.jpg

The perfect pout is an essential part of getting dressed. The dolls are always fully made up as you never know when a business meeting might turn into a cocktail party might turn into a dinner might turn into gay bingo might turn into a night at the opera, so we always have a make up bag to hand. Top of the list of essentials is a shiny lip gloss and there is none shinier than MAC’s Lipglass. It’s been a BOTD staple for years so when we heard that one of our fave British designers, Gareth Pugh was teaming up with MAC we couldn’t wait to see the results. Amber is wearing Outrage this morning to work but we love the slightly lavenderish Vacant shade.

Seal of Approval

Say it ain’t so! Heidi Klum and Seal, possibly the cutest and coolest couple in Celebrityland have called it quits? But they seemed so happy! Indeed in this shot, our Heidi doll looks pretty happy… And pretty bendy. As a Victoria’s Secret model she has obviously become used to working every angle in her pants but still. I guess she’s just showing Seal what he’s gonna miss.

Sunny Girl

20120120-112107.jpg

The guy said, Honey, you’re a Sunny Girl.
It may be a grey old day here in London but we’re gearing up for spring in a citrus burst of yellow on yellow on yellow. Now I know this ain’t an easy colour to pull off, especially when you are a Barbie blonde like me. But with Louis Vuitton, Jason Wu and Mulberry all showing lots of lemon for Spring/Summer 2012, we felt inspired to get bright. We’re heading out for an important business lunch so it feels like the perfect opportunity to debut our newest citrusy peep toe Louboutins.

If head to toe yellow seems too too much, then make like Madison and brighten up your outfit with some yellow accessories.

Refresh, Refresh!

Click refresh. Click it again. And again…. Still nothing! Well thanks a lot H&M for another successful launch. It would appear the dolls will be buying their second helpings of the Versace collaboration on eBay. Now there is a great app. Readers will know I have a deadly addiction slight problem when it comes to eBay. The iPad app makes it all so darn easy. A few swipes of the finger and you’ve bought a pair of vintage Chanel glasses, a handful of Dior bits and bobs, a limited edition Bob Mackie Barbie, all before even finishing a glass of wine. H&M could learn a thing or two from eBay. It looks like we will have to wait a while before we get our hands on the fruity floral delights of the Versace Cruise Collection. Or maybe I have Donatella’s number in here somewhere….
